Fairview Health Services Selects Layer Health to Modernize Clinical Registry Abstraction Across Stroke, Oncology, and Cardiology Programs

Major Minnesota health system selects  Layer Health's clinical intelligence platform to accelerate registry abstraction, clear backlogs, and redirect clinical capacity toward quality improvement — beginning with stroke and expanding to its highest-volume cancer and cardiac registries

BOSTON —November 4, 2026 — Layer Health, a leading clinical intelligence company, today announced that Fairview Health Services, a large, integrated Minnesota health system with a broad network of hospitals, clinics and healthcare services,  has selected Layer Health to automate and standardize clinical registry abstraction across the enterprise, beginning with the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke registry and expanding to its oncology and cardiology registry programs.

Clinical registries are foundational to how health systems measure, benchmark, and improve care, but the process to complete them remains one of the most labor-intensive processes in healthcare. Registry abstractors manually review thousands of patient records each year to capture the clinical data national programs require, and as case volumes grow, backlogs follow. For many large health systems, registry demand has outpaced the capacity of abstraction teams, delaying the data quality leaders need to act on for quality improvement initiatives.

For large health systems, modernizing registry abstraction is both an operational and a quality imperative: reducing the cost of manual chart review, keeping registry submissions current across a growing case load, and freeing experienced abstractors to spend more of their time on the quality-improvement work registries exist to support.

Under the partnership, Layer Health will first support Fairview's GWTG–Stroke program. Following validation against the health system's own data, the deployment will expand to its highest-volume registries: the National Cancer Database (NCDB) and the American College of Cardiology's NCDR registries. Layer Health's platform reviews the entire longitudinal patient record, including both structured and unstructured data, and surfaces source-linked evidence for every answer, giving abstractors a faster, more consistent way to work while keeping clinical judgment in their hands.

"Fairview is approaching the work of clinical registries in a way that aligns with the most innovative quality teams in the country," said David Sontag, CEO and Co-Founder of Layer Health. "Our platform brings clinically intelligent machine learning to a workflow that mirrors how abstractors already work, so these teams can spend less time searching for answers and more time moving quality improvement initiatives forward. Starting with stroke and extending to cancer and cardiology registries gives us the opportunity to support how quality is measured and improved across a wide range of programs at Fairview."
